Aloha is....when someone you looked up to in your youth reaches out to you in adulthood to tell you how you inspire them with your courage.
As part of our vacation, my husband, stepson and I ventured to Boston for a few days. It turns out one of my high school classmates lived just one exit away from where we were staying. Technically, Jennifer graduated a year ahead of me and I graduated with her sister, but we grew up going to the same church and the same beach on Candlewood Lake in Connecticut. But, technically we weren't friends. We just didn't really know or talk to each other as kids. But, thanks to social media, we've connected on Facebook where she had been following my stories about the ups and downs of Life and my mission in aloha.
First, she was kind enough to pick me up at my hotel (since I was hobbling around on an injured calf) and so she could give me a "boot" that she had used when she had a similar injury, and then she chose a bar at a StayPineapple Hotel, just a few blocks away. (She knows how I love pineapples, huh?). And, of course, I just had to order the "Trophy Wife" cocktail because it was made with vodka, soda water and pineapple juice and because it was named after the bar where we were drinking - The Trophy Room.
I just had the most amazing time connecting with this pineapple. Not only does she live her life with passion and purpose, but she also carries the aloha spirit in her heart, soul and teachings. I admire the way she impacts others and how she lives her life to the fullest.
My experience demonstrates that you just never know who is watching, listening and learning from you. So, whatever it is you do, say or teach, let it come from a place of love, kindness and compassion. Also, if you live your life with positivity passion and purpose, you will inspire others to do the same and you will gain support and encouragement to keep going as well!
What I also learned was how important it is to connect with others - from your past and your present. I believe there is so much we can learn from each other - from our experiences and from our wisdom. There is always something we can share to help each other on our paths. And, most of all, you learn just how much more we are alike than we are different.
Jennifer, keep dancing to the beat of your own drum as that is the key to your happiness and health. I love your life and I love you!! Peace, love and Aloha to you always.
Live, Love and Lead with Aloha.
