Aloha is....getting a picture of your nieces and nephew celebrating their Lola's 74th birthday from the other side of the country!
(Lola means "grandma" in my Filipino mother's language.)
It's so nice and comforting to see the next generation of McGee's genuinely happy and smiling while they surround their grandmother on her birthday. My mother is not one to celebrate herself or doing anything nice for herself ever. So, for the kids to make a big deal out of her with a cake and force her to get into a picture with her is wonderful to see. And, I'm sure they had her blow out the candles and make a birthday wish!
Happy Aloha Birthday to the greatest teacher and role model I've ever had. My mom is brave, selfless, loving, generous, giving and funny without even trying. She is the reason I am who I am, how I am, where I am, what I do and how I do in this world. If you see her this week, please wish her a HAPPY 74th BIRTHDAY. Love you, Mommy!
(At every birthday celebrated in our family, the kids hold up their fingers to show how old they are. It helps us remember, too. Ella is 11, Jace is 9 and Julia is 6.)
