“More smiling, less worrying. More compassion, less judgment. More blessed, less stressed. More love, less hate.” ― Roy T. Bennett
There are at least two ways to look at things. There are two sides to every story. And, as the saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.
Dating back to 1854 in “Way Down East; or Portraitures of Yankee Life” by Seba Smith, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat” is a phrase that means there are many ways to do something. There are many ways to achieve a goal. There are more ways than one to get through this life, too, especially during the difficult times. How we choose to get through this life is dependent on our attitudes.
While so many things in life are out of our control, we still have control over our attitudes and actions. But, control over our attitudes and actions is a choice most of us don’t realize we have. It is our choice how we look at any given situation: is the glass half empty or is it half full? The attitudes we choose in response to our experiences determine the course of actions we take. Ultimately, our actions determine the results and outcomes. Therefore, if we could pause long enough to consider the outcomes we seek, we would think twice before taking action. Taking the appropriate action requires adopting the right attitude that matches the outcome we seek.
To have more control over every result and outcome you desire, you have to dial it back to your thoughts and attitudes. To secure better outcomes in life, choose thoughts that support your goals. While it may be difficult at times, it will pay off. Your thoughts are the seeds that take root in your attitude. As your attitude about life - or a specific situation in your life - develops, your feelings grow. But, your feelings grow according to the attitude you nurture. Therefore, exercise caution because your feelings impact your actions. The more positive you feel, the more positive you act. Your actions define your reality. Therefore, your bloom is a culmination of your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
If you’re experiencing a tough time right now, don’t make it harder on yourself. Consider being more loving, kind, and compassionate instead. As Tony Robbins says, where your attention goes, your energy flows. Choosing to be positive and gentle with yourself fosters a better attitude, which will improve your chances of achieving positive outcomes. So, choose to be optimistic, even when you feel discouraged. Choose to smile through the rain. Choose to be grateful for the strength and resilience you develop from hardship. And, choose to see the wisdom you gain from the lessons you learn.
No matter what you're facing in your life, it's your choice whether or not you allow it to control you. Taking control of your attitude is an opportunity to take back your power. Take the time to choose attitudes that shape the life you want to live now.
