I'm Good at What I Do

What are you good at? What skills, talents, or abilities do you have? What comes easy to you?

Sadly, I find that we don’t give ourselves enough credit for things we do well. Instead, we tend to overlook the things that come naturally to us and focus on the things we have yet to achieve. Why, and what can we do about it? 

1. We compare ourselves to others too much. How can you know your worth if you're constantly comparing yourself to someone else? Being preoccupied with others is a hazard to our own success. When others succeed, we think we failed. We already feel defeated when, in reality, we're just getting started. 

Let’s not do this to ourselves. Remember, some people just arrive at their destination before we do. We all have different paths. And every path comes with its mountains to climb, rivers to cross, and lessons to learn. So, focus less on comparing and more on sharing. Be motivated and inspired by someone else's journey, including their ups and downs. No one achieved success without them.

2. We don't value our lesser achievements. All achievements count. Size doesn't matter. But their accumulation will lead to success.

Tap into the power of self-recognition. Self-recognition is a powerful tool to keep you moving in the direction of your dreams. When you’re good at what you do, your self-esteem and confidence soar. So, capitalize on that by recognizing your achievements often. It can go a long way in creating future success. 

Give yourself credit for what you have accomplished and achieved so far. Write them down so you can see them in black and white. Then, pat yourself on the back for how far you’ve come. Recognizing fears and challenges you’ve overcome will encourage you to keep going. So, include them in your list, too!

3. We are too hard on ourselves. Being overly self-critical and impatient with your progress won't help you succeed faster. So, you might as well practice self-compassion. Cut yourself some slack, and focus on your path. If you made it this far, then you know you can go all the way. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. It will take time, but you can be patient. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Repeat positive affirmations daily to keep your mindset strong and your spirits high. Tell yourself you're doing the best you can. From time to time, tell yourself you're doing a great job! Celebrate your efforts along the way! Give yourself a high five. Or, better yet, ask someone for one!

If you are good at what you do, don’t ignore it. Use it to boost your self-worth, self-esteem, courage, and confidence. Be your biggest fan and claim it!
