Oh, Christmas tree. Oh Christmas tree...
On the second day of Christmas Aloha, I surprised my in-laws with a real tree for their back porch.
My stepson and I went to The Home Depot yesterday to buy his grandparents a 6-foot tree and stand. Then, together we decorated it with white lights, glass angels, and framed ornaments with the faces of every family member inside them to help them feel closer to their loved ones on this pandemic holiday. Then, we placed the tree up against the sliding back door so that they could enjoy the view from the comfort of their TV room and kitchen, where they spend most of their time.
The first wave of ornaments filled up the front of the tree facing the door. We'll be filling in the rest of the tree with more family memories this week.
Needless to say, my in-laws were overjoyed! They have a fake Christmas tree, but they weren't planning on putting it up this year. I grew up with a real tree every year and I couldn't bear the thought of them not having a tree or their whole family with them this holiday. Not ones to want to ask me for help, this was a gesture I hoped they would accept. So, I was thrilled to hear it was a home run! Knowing their nights would be a little brighter and they would feel a little lighter made me feel happier and brighter, too!
*For the 12 days of Christmas Aloha, I'm using the 12 days before Christmas to inspire people to be loving, kind, and compassionate with themselves and each other. With pandemic living, political disagreements, job loss, and Christmas shopping, I've witnessed people forgetting about the true spirit of Christmas. I hope my acts of aloha inspire YOU to be more loving, kind, and compassionate today!
