A few years ago, one of my friends retired as a Sergeant Major from the United States Marine Corps after almost 30 years of service. If there was anything I’ve learned from Phillip in all the years I’ve known him, it was how to adapt and overcome life changes and challenges, just as the Corps taught him to do. As part of their mission, “Marines are trained to improvise, adapt and overcome any obstacle in whatever situation they are needed. They have the willingness to engage and the determination to defeat the enemy until victory is seized.”
Since knowing Phillip, I’ve adopted the phrase, “adapt and overcome,” to help me face all kinds of changes and challenges in my life – from relocation and job changes to illness, injury and even death of loved ones.
Being able to adapt to the many changes that can occur in your life is a major advantage in achieving success and defeating your own enemies, like this pandemic we’re all facing. Whether it’s changes in health, like illness, injury, menopause or aging; changes in finances, like job loss or bankruptcy; or changes in home life, like divorce, empty nest syndrome or death of a loved one, learning how to adapt and overcome will not only help you bounce back faster, but it will also help you face whatever changes and challenges come next.
So, use this positive affirmation to help strengthen your mindset and to develop the courage, confidence, perseverance, resilience, and skills in improvisation, problem solving and leadership needed to overcome the changes and challenges in your life today! You can adapt and overcome, my Pineapple. I just know you can!
