When a task, problem or even life seems too difficult to handle, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, paralyzed or hopeless. You might feel like you don’t have the skill set or enough resources to overcome your challenge, which only makes it harder to see a solution or way out. It's also very common to limit your focus on can't's over can's.
This is the perfect opportunity for practicing deep breathing and positive self-talk until you can adopt a positive outlook.
In the meantime, it’s a good practice to focus on what you know - the facts, tools and support available to you. Then, match what you know with what you can do with or about them at this very moment only. Even though you don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel just yet, this practice and focus is a better use of your time and energy and may help alleviate some of the pressure you’re feeling right now. Focusing on what you can't do may only reinforce feeling stuck and hopeless.
Applying your energy to positive actions based on facts helps move you in the direction of a solution and positive outcome. If the problem or task feels too big, start small by cutting it up into more manageable pieces. Then, begin tackling your challenge piece by piece only. If possible, consider enlisting the help of others and delegate certain pieces for them to handle.
No matter what, just start taking steps - even the smallest ones. Taking steps creates movement. Movement creates outcomes. It’s a far better alternative to staying stuck. Fear, doubt and negativity thrive in remaining stuck. The goal is to keep moving. When you’re taking action, you feel empowered. Feeling empowered fuels more positive action, which helps to create positive results.
Choose to feel empowered by focusing your energy on what you can do and not on what you can’t. This keeps your actions in alignment with a better attitude. And, this is how you will conquer your challenge, build courage and inspire hope within yourself, my Pineapple!
